The 2025 ETAS Diagnostic and Security Summit welcomed 55 industry experts from across Europe to Berlin for two days of deep exchange, forward-thinking discussions, and immersive demonstrations—all centered on the evolving challenges and solutions in automotive diagnostics and cybersecurity.

The summit kicked off with a joint keynote by Jürgen Hornung and Tobias Friedrich (ETAS), who explored global megatrends, technology shifts, and the resulting challenges for the automotive sector. It became clear:

Increasing complexity and diverse requirements in diagnostics and cybersecurity are creating new demands—calling for innovative solutions that support OEMs, suppliers, workshops, and end users throughout the entire lifecycle.

In a compelling keynote, Joachim Franz (Microsoft) addressed how Generative AI is reshaping data and cybersecurity strategies:

  • AI is essential to unlock the full potential of this data
  • As hackers grow more sophisticated, AI-powered cybersecurity is no longer optional—it’s essential

Security at the intersection of manufacturing & diagnostics

Moritz Minzlaff (ETAS) then unveiled findings from the Cybersecurity Maturity Report 2025, now in its fifth year. The report aims to foster understanding, identify challenges and highlights characteristics of high cyber maturity.

It draws on anonymous responses from automotive professionals and executives worldwide, helping shape the industry's response to emerging threats.

Panel Discussion: The future of diagnostics

The day concluded with a panel discussion on the Future of Diagnostics featuring:

  • Leon Kandekore (Jaguar Land Rover)
  • Holger Rothaug (Microsoft)
  • Guido Rulhof (ETAS)

The evening wrapped up with a relaxed rooftop BBQ overlooking the Spree River—an ideal setting for continued networking, good conversation, and a spectacular view.

Day 2: Deep dives and demonstrations

The second day of the summit focused on hands-on experiences and technical deep dives. Attendees explored a range of demo stations and live scenarios, including:

  • Lifecycle risk and vulnerability management
  • Automating security policies before and after SOP
  • Accelerating secure software development with automated testing
  • Vulnerability management and Security Operations Center (SOC) insights
  • Simulated ECOS testing via SOVD—from test client to toy car
  • Station manager for orchestrating EOL testing with multiple vehicle configuration clients
  • Cloud-based diagnostics simulation
  • Predictive diagnostics: Most likely repair & next DTC
  • Secure lifecycle diagnostics and repair
  • Service-oriented vehicle diagnostics & technical workshop assistant
